29 Jan SLABS – LITHEA and the University of Palermo
SLABS is a marble collection of objects and furniture for the spaces of the house designed by the students of Industrial Design coordinated by Prof. Viviana Trapani.
The experiments of the students drew a new and familiar domestic scene, where an intense and rich material as marble has been reinterpreted through a research for clarity constructive, counterpoints formal / functional and figures light and playful. The projects are made using the latest manufacturing techniques and emphasizing the use of Sicilian marble.
LITHEA and the University of Palermo put in place a process of intense collaboration and dialogue that went through all stages of project design, from the elaboration of the concepts to the production.
Graduated in Architecture in Palermo, she took a Master in Design at Domus Academy and worked with Ettore Sottsass, Umberto
Riva, Paolo Rizzatto. She is currently Associate Professor of Industrial Design at the University of Palermo.
She proposed a teaching oriented at design quality of the object / contemporary product in relationship to the rapid increasingly socio-
cultural changes and emerging technologies. She explored, trough experiments students on the theme of light, technical and
typological aspects, and applications to improve the skills of urban space. She organized exhibitions, conferences, participation of
students in competitions and design workshops with companies and local and national institutions. She got intense research on
design development, sustainability and strategic planning of land resources, especially in Mediterranean area.
Ha proposto una didattica del orientata alla qualità dell’oggetto/prodotto contemporaneo, in rapporto alle sempre più rapide modifiche
socio-culturali e alle tecnologie emergenti. Ha esplorato attraverso le sperimentazione degli studenti il tema della luce, dai
suoi aspetti tecnici e tipologici, fino alle applicazioni finalizzate alla qualificazione dello spazio urbano. Ha organizzato mostre,
conferenze, partecipazione di studenti a concorsi e workshop progettuali con aziende e istituzioni locali e nazionali. Ha svolto
un’intensa attività di ricerca sui temi del design dello sviluppo, della sostenibilità e della progettazione strategica delle risorse
territoriali, in particolare per le aree del Mediterraneo.
