Pierluigi Piu nasce a Cagliari nel 1954. Formatosi nella facoltà di Architettura di Firenze, risiede in questa città fino al 1989, e qui da vita con Giuseppe Panaro, fra il 1982 e il 1985, all’ATELIER PROCONSOLO, studio di design e azienda di autoproduzione, partecipando a varie mostre in Italia ed all’estero. Dal 1985 lavora come consulente associato (per il Product e l’Interior Design) dello studio ACME’ CONSULTANTS (Association pour la Création et les Méthodes d’Evolution), con sede a Parigi, partecipando allo sviluppo del progetto di prodotti per aziende come Gaz de France, Essilor (leader mondiale dell’occhialeria), Fiat-Iveco, Aeroports de Paris ed altre. Nel 1990 segue una collaborazione con l’architetto belga Pierre Lallemand, presso lo studio Art & Build di Bruxelles. Nel corso del 1991 realizza, a titolo personale, i suoi primi lavori in Inghilterra, per poi rientrare a Cagliari, città d’origine, dove apre il suo studio e inizia ad operare nell’ambito dell’Architettura e dell’Interior Design. Nel 1995 svolge un nuovo incarico a Londra. Fra il 1996 ed il 1998 soggiorna nuovamente a Bruxelles, dove è chiamato dall’architetto Steven Beckers a collaborare al progetto di ricostruzione e rinnovamento del Palazzo Berlaymont, sede storica del Consiglio dei Ministri della Comunità Europea, incaricato, nell’ambito di un’equipe internazionale appositamente formata, della supervisione e del coordinamento del linguaggio estetico-formale degli interni dell’intero edificio. Nel 2006/2007 realizza due nuovi progetti di spazi commerciali a Londra, per i quali nel novembre del 2007 viene insignito a Mosca del “Russian International Architectural Award 2007” per l’innovazione negl’interni degli spazi pubblici e, successivamente, dell’ “International Design Award 2008” a Los Angeles e dell’ “Archi-Bau Design Award 2009” a Monaco di Baviera, oltre a due nominations per il britannico “Restaurants & Bars Award 2009”, mentre, nel 2011, ha ricevuto a Roma il “Premio Compasso d’Oro” per la sua partecipazione a DOMO – XIX Biennale dell’Artigianato Sardo. Nel 2012 gli è stato assegnato il “Premio IED”, dalla scuola internazionale Istituto Europeo di Design. Dal 2009 è fra i commentators professionali del sito web britannico restaurantandbardesign.com e membro dell’italiana Accademia del Pensiero a Colori. Attualmente vive e lavora a Cagliari, dove esplica la sua attività di libero professionista, particolarmente nel settore delle residenze private e degli spazi commerciali, e da dove continua a realizzare progetti anche per altri paesi. I suoi lavori sono riportati su alcuni libri specialistici pubblicati in Italia, Europa, Asia e Stati Uniti, e sulle più importanti riviste di settore nazionali ed internazionali. È stato docente di Progettazione artistica di impresa della Rome University of Fine Arts – Libera Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma.

Pierluigi Piu was born in Cagliari (Sardinia, Italy) in 1954. He laterpursuedhisstudiesat the University of Architecture in Florence, in which city he liveduntil 1989. Here he alsoestablishes and carries out – between 1982 and 1985 – the design practice and production company ‘Atelier Proconsolo’, under the auspices of which he participates in variousexhibitions and tradefairs, both in Italy and abroad. Since 1985 he worksas an associate consultant (for Product and Interiors Design) at the firm ACME Consultants (Association pour la Création et lesMéthodes d’Evolution), based in Paris, taking part in the development of products for firmssuchasGaz de France, Essilor (a leader in the world of spectacles), Fiat-Iveco and Paris Airports, amongstothers. In 1990 therefollowed a collaboration with the Belgianarchitect Pierre Lallemand, athisarchitecturalpractice “Art &Build” in Bruxelles. In the course of 1991 he carried out, under hisownauspices, his first assignments in England, beforereturning to Cagliari , hisbirthplace, where he openedhisown office and beganworking in the field of interior design and architecture. In 1995 he undertook a new project in London. Then, from 1996 until 11998, he was back in Bruxelles, where he had been summoned by the architect Steven Beckers to collaborate on a project for the reconstruction and refurbishment of the Berlaymont Palace, the historic seat of the Council of Ministers of the European Community, and so undertook – working together with a specially formed international equipe – the supervision and coordination of the aesthetic and formal language for the interior design of the entire building. In 2006/2007 he carried out the design of two new commercial projects in London, for which he was assigned the “Russian International Architectural Award 2007” in Moscow, the “International Design Award 2008” in Los Angeles and the “Archi-Bau Design Award 2009” in Munich, Germany, while, in 2011, he was awarded in Rome with the “Compassod’Oro”, for his contribution to DOMO – 19th Biennial of Sardinian Arts and Crafts. In 2012 he received the “Premio IED” award from the international school IstitutoEuropeo di Design. Since 2009 he is one of professional commentators of the British dedicated web site restaurantandbardesign.com and is a member of Italian Accademia del Pensiero a Colori. Mainly based and working in Cagliari, he continues his professional career most particularly in the fields of private residences and of commercial space as well as working on overseas projects. His designs and works have been reported on in several specialist books in Italy, Europe, Asia and the United States and in some of the most important national and international trade magazines.
